Medical Definition of SOUTH AMERICAN BLASTOMYCOSIS

:  blastomycosis caused by a fungus of the genus Paracoccidioides (P. brasiliensis synonym Blastomyces brasiliensis) and characterized by formation of ulcers on the mucosal surfaces of the mouth that spread to lips, nose, and cheeks, by great enlargement of lymph nodes especially of the throat and chest, and by involvement of the gastrointestinal tract—called also paracoccidioidomycosis
