: a contagious venereal disease that is caused by various strains of a bacterium of the genus Chlamydia (C. trachomatis) and is marked by painful swelling and inflammation of the lymph nodes especially in the region of the groin—called also lymphogranuloma inguinale, lymphopathia venereum
