Sense Division
A boldface colon is used to introduce a definition:
fable . . . noun : fábula feminine
Boldface Arabic numerals separate the senses of a word that has more than one sense:
laguna feminine noun 1 : lagoon 2 : lacuna, gap
Whenever some information (such as a synonym, a boldface word or phrase, a usage note, a cross-reference, or a label) follows a sense number, it applies only to that specific numbered sense and not to any other boldface numbered senses:
abanico masculine noun . . . 2 GAMA : . . .
tonic2 noun . . . 2 or tonic water : . . .
grillo masculine noun . . . 2 grillos masculine noun plural : . . .
fairy . . . noun, plural fairies . . . 2 fairy tale : . . .
