Word History of QUICKSILVER
The metal mercury has a color like silver. Most metals are solid but mercury is liquid at ordinary temperatures. It moves and flows and acts almost as if it were alive. The word quick once meant “alive” or “moving.” This is why mercury was given the name quicksilver.
