: a genus of microscopic parasites of the intestinal mucosa of herbivorous mammals that are commonly regarded as protozoans related to the Sarcosporidia, that form membranous cysts enclosing fusiform spores, and that sometimes produce severe symptoms of gastrointestinal disorder
