Word History of JULY
In the earliest Roman calendar the year began with March, and the fifth month was the one we now call July. The original name of this month in Latin was in fact Quintilis, from the word quintus, “fifth.” After the death of the statesman Julius Caesar, who was born in this month, the Romans renamed it Julius in his honor. English July comes ultimately from Latin Julius.
